CCMI Establishes Special Access Rate Regulation Taskforce

In response to the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Order on the issue of special access rate regulation, CCMI has created a taskforce to help impacted corporations meet the requirements of the federal mandate.
The taskforce is comprised of a group of seasoned telecom analysts and IT engineers whose mandate is to assist corporations in the analysis and data collection of special access rates and regulations as mandated by the FCC.
On Dec. 18, 2012, the FCC issued its Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on the issue of regulation of special access rates. The order indicates that the FCC will investigate the current policies, rates, and regulations of special access services to determine whether the current structure is suitable for today’s highly competitive telecom marketplace. As part of the order, the FCC also initiates a comprehensive mandatory data collection effort for all providers and purchasers of special access services in order to conduct a thorough evaluation of competition in this market.
The data required to be collected includes all traditional, dedicated facilities at the DS1, DS3 and OCN levels, as well as packet-based dedicated services such as Ethernet, for the calendar years of 2010 and 2012. Rates and regulations in the Interstate and Intrastate jurisdictions are also required.
